Our client, a leader in manufacturing quality products is looking to add to their finance team.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Operations Accountant’s core functions will be operations reporting and the oversight of the pole perpetual and costing inventory systems.  Primary responsibilities will include cost reporting, the valuations of inventory in both Canadian and US operations and sales reconciliations.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Inventory – overseeing the inventory perpetual records, including:
    • Completion of month-end inventory costing process to apply production costs for the month to inventory and to relieve inventory of the cost
    • Reconciliation of subledger to general ledger on a monthly basis
    • Maintain effective controls necessary to ensure accurate and complete reporting
  • Sales Reporting – Reconcile monthly sales to the general ledger
    • Generate monthly sales statement
    • Reconcile sales tax account and approve tax remittance
  • Preservative Inventories:
    • Tracking of monthly preservative usage
    • Maintaining and reviewing the treating database
    • Quarterly reporting and analysis of costs
  • Costing Statements – Contribute to month end financial statements and analyze variances and the impact of changes to costs
    • Full Costing reports – used for managerial analysis and measuring product profitability
    • Departmental Costing – used for managerial analysis
  • Supporting Inventory Clerks during peak times and Operations Accounting Manager on cost projects

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Post-Secondary Accounting courses

Experience/Abilities:

  • Cost accounting in a manufacturing environment;
  • proficient with MS Office and Dynamics AX (would be an asset)
  • an inventory system within a manufacturing environment;
  • proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices and standards;
  • high attention to detail and accuracy;
  • strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Strong team player, willing to help others within the department or within other departments;
  • To analyze and communicate the financial impact of the manufacturing process to management;
  • To work independently as well as part of a team;
  • To service both internal and external clients, providing the information they need in an understandable manner and timely fashion;
  • To put in the extra effort to meet deadlines;
  • To travel to the US for inventory counts;
  • To come up with possible solutions to a problem and present them for discussion;
  • Additional duties as required.
