Payroll & Benefits Administrator
The Payroll & Benefits Administrator position reports to the Controller and is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and maintenance of benefit programs for 5 operating companies within the group. The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of payroll compliance and legislation and general accounting principles and procedures. Duties will include payroll and benefit account maintenance, vacation, sick time accruals, reconciliations and reports. We are looking for a detail oriented individual who is a proven team player. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and is based in Kelowna, BC.
Duties & Responsibilities:
− Payroll
− Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for Canadianemployees
− Responsible for the calculation and remittance of various deductions, for all payroll groups; reconcile payroll accounts with the General Ledger; ensure accurate expense and liability accounts are processed.
− Responsible for year end filing and annual production of T4s, T4As and T2200.
− Responsible for the maintenance of payroll records for internal and external requirements.
− Responsible for payroll yearly audit for internal and external auditors.
− Liaise closely with Finance department to ensure accurate costing of payroll; provide payroll information when required for the filing of corporate tax returns, IRAP claim submissions, accounting for deferred development projects and liaises with Finance on taxation issues.
− Responsible for identifying legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting payroll functions and ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance.
− Responsible for identifying potential improvements in payroll and control processes, ensuring that identified opportunities are implemented successfully.
− Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations and merit increases.
− Address or respond to inquires from managers, employees and finance department regarding payroll and expenses in agreed turnaround time.
− Administer commission and bonus incentive process and approvals.
Benefits:
− Month end accruals and reconciliation of benefit accounts and payroll sub-ledger to the general ledger
− Responsible for administration of benefits and remittance of premiums as well maintenance of benefit files for group employees
− Handles Group RRSP remittances, monthly enrolments, liaising with RSP provider, handle employee queries.
Reporting
− Overall responsibility for timely remittance and reporting of statutory contributions in compliance with regulations and statutory requirements
− Maintain attendance and vacation reporting, and provide monthly absentee reports to group managers
− Analyze, compile and report payroll statistics to government agencies, e.g. CRA, HRSDC, etc.
− Monthly variance analysis and reporting of Salaries & Benefits expense item in finanicial statements update.
− Maintain headcount reporting.
− Ad hoc reporting and trend analysis as required.
− Responsible for compiling budgetary information during the annual planning cycle.
− Other duties to be determined.
Education & Experience Required:
− A minimum of 5 years of payroll experience.
− Holds a Certified Payroll Designation through the CPA.
− Successful completion of 2nd or 3rd level of a recognized post secondary accounting program.
− Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite).
− Experience in a computerized software environment mandatory.
